In addition to oil and acrylics, Dieter Becker also enjoys experimenting with other media. Brushes, spatulas, street brooms, and fingers enable him to consciously choose his unrestricted, stylistically free painting style – he is an experimenter.
Due to his technical-analytical approach tends toward painterly realism, but abstraction also feels at home. He likes to pursue the transition from realistic painting to abstraction by dissolving contours (lost edges).
As a painter, he uses the pseudonym DLII (D for Dieter, LII for 52 in Roman numerals – his birth year, 1952). While painting, Dieter lets the video camera look over his shoulder and posts these making-of videos on his YouTube channel. He has also written a non-fiction book on the subject. He has adopted the combination of painting, video, and image description as his philosophy.
