Diana Kirsten Gibson is an impressionist painter. She began to study oil painting at the Ridgewood Art Institute in 1997 with internationally known artist and teacher, John Phillip Osborne. Osborne, an inspiring painter, played a pivotal role in the development of his student. He provided a model of excellence and created an environment for learning and motivation. Further exposure to such masters such as Corot, Emil Carlsen, George Inness, Sir Henry Raeburn, John S. Sargent, and Velazquez provided inspiration and helped fuel the desire to attain a higher purpose in painting.
"My belief is that the high purpose of painting is to exalt the beauty that surrounds us. It is essential to be able to depict the joy and inspiration derived from all that is beautiful. I strive to bring life out of the canvas in a way that is honest and humble," said Gibson.
In the pursuit of excellence, many long hours are applied to the study of fine painting. Whether it is inside a north-lit studio or outside on location, time is dedicated to the comprehension of the various effects and moods of nature. Studying directly from nature, she has a goal to recreate life on canvas by focusing upon capturing prismatic light and atmospheric effects.
Diana is currently represented by several galleries. Her work has been accepted into such prestigious shows as the American Artists Professional League, NYC; Hudson Valley Art Association, NYC; Ringwood Manor Association of Arts, NJ; Audubon Artists, NYC; Allied Artists of America, NYC, etc. Awards received include second place in oils 2000 and first place in oils 2001 from the Ringwood Manor Arts Association, the Grumbacher Gold Medal Award awarded at the Ringwood Manor Arts Association Juried Show in 2003, the Williams Landscape Award awarded at the Ridgewood Art Institute Annual Regional Jury Show 2004, and awarded Best in Show at the Ringwood Manor Arts Association Juried Show in 2005.
Diana is a life member of the Ridgewood Art Institute, holds a seat on the Board of Directors, and is an instructor at the Ridgewood Art Institute. Works can be viewed on line at
