She loves living close to the natural environment and spending time each day creating new works of art. "In between caring for my animals and this small Permacultural Farmlet" she says.
Having spent some years living overseas in the Solomon Islands teaching English and Music she has had the opportunity to live a very full and adventurous lifestyle. Having had the experience of living in grass-roots situations and being able to fully experience the beautiful rainforests of the Solomon Islands. Back in Australia, Denise is an avid photographer and enjoys using her Nikon DSLR. Learning in various subjects over the years has enabled Denise to accumulate a wide variety of knowledge and experience which she enjoys sharing through her art. She has completed various courses through several practicing Artist's workshops & completed a Diploma of Visual Arts-Fine Arts Stream through Toowoomba Tafe.
Whatever Media she uses, the importance or emphasis for Denise is usually about creating a sense of "Flow". Mihaly Csikszentmihályi and others began researching "flow" after Csikszentmihályi became fascinated by artists who would be lost in the moment. It is an invaluable way to spend time creating. This (mindfulness) has been proven to be one of the most effective ways to induce a "Flow State" and relax and enjoy the moment.
Whether it be Abstracts, Nature and the Environs, Seascapes, Mazes, Organic or Geometric the subjects of interest are endless. Denise's style is one of layers and intricate work. This enables the "Flow" experience to reach the deepest possible levels as she works. It also ensures Denise utilizes her unique layered style which she has developed through some years of experience, trial and error. This Style of working incorporates the use of overlayed images and added fine line work to imply added layers of subject matter, frequently within layers of mixed media.
"Being in the Moment-Tomorrow never arrives " is how we can stay focused.

Exhibition: "FLOW"
Toowoomba Repertory Theatre Society, Margaret Street, East Toowoomba QLD, Australia
This will be another collaborative exhibition with Toowoomba Artist Karen Ashurst. The exhibition will be on the theme of 'FLOW".
There will be works in various media displayed in the Repertory's Gallery Space which is just inside the front entrance and to the left.
There will be quite a few works to do with the subject of nature, and quite a bit of fine detailed work as the artists will both present Artworks that have taken a great deal of time to complete. to encourage, or induce the "Flow" experience into their working experience.
It is the object of this exhibition to present to the viewer a wide range of working styles that demonstrate how the creative processes in Art Making can induce a "Flow" experience which is helpful to the process.
There will also be a psychologist giving a 20-minute speech on the subject of "Flow"
Further updates on this Exhibition will be given later in the year as we near the opening date.
