Mixed media “digital photography/acrylic” composition. The scene was photographed in a park in the American Northwest. The work is structured around two guiding lines: the figure and the diagonal of the ridge line in the background. The dominant tone is purple tending towards blue. The original photo was reworked beforehand, amplifying the blue component and increasing the degree of saturation. The canvas was coated with a thick layer of alkyd resin to enhance the impression of transparency and depth.

Christian Delavelle is self-taught. His preferred tools of expression are acrylic, dry pastel and charcoal. His pictorial language is based on transparency, superimpositions, reflections and spatial perspective.

He develops each work from situations taken from novels, poems or travel memories.

A tree facing a comet in the night, a train emerging from the blizzard, a sailor facing a breaking wave, a galloping horse appearing from nowhere, a bird contemplating the lagoon at dusk, a character in a novel whose life is about to change. He seeks to capture the gaze of the human, animal or plant, its intense dialogue with the natural elements, in these unique moments, movements, shapes and transparencies take on a special intensity and relief.

Christian Delavelle has a respectful attitude towards the materials he uses. He uses second-hand canvases and uses the canvas surface in such a way as to limit himself to representing the essential.

He has studied with Solweig von Kleist, Nathalie Tournesac, Olivier Le Bars and Vincent Bébert at the Académie d'art de Meudon. He exhibits online at “Les 3 Dauphins” gallery and on “Artmajeur by YourArt”. He participates regularly at events in the Paris region, such as the « Salon de la Société Versaillaise des Artistes d'Ile-de-France », the « Salon de la Sèvrienne des Arts » and the « Salon des Arts Meudonnais ».
