Vadim Stein wurde 1967 in der Ukraine geboren. Als er von 1985 bis 1992 am Theater of Plastic Drama arbeitete, lernte er, wie man dekorative Skulpturen und Grafiken herstellt. Sein Lieblingsfach war Tänzer. Er begann Anfang der 1990er Jahre zu fotografieren, und die Tänzerin wurde schnell zu seinem Lieblingsmotiv. Er beschäftigt sich seit langem mit der visuellen Sprache des Tanzes und pflegt enge Beziehungen zu vielen der wichtigsten Tanzgruppen und Theater der Welt.
