Dennis Cardiff was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1946. He studied art under Ernest Lindner at the Saskatoon Technical Collegiate Institute. Mr. Lindner later became a friend, mentor and regular visitor to the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon where Dennis worked for five years as Extension Officer and Assistant to the Director.
After moving to Toronto in 1968 Dennis studied at York University and The Ontario College of Art. In Toronto he met artists Tom Lima and Michael John Angel, a student of the world renowned painter Pietro Annigoni. From Tom he learned portraiture and from John he learned egg tempera painting and the classical approach to art. These artists remained friends and even from a distance remain a source of inspiration.
Dennis started painting professionally in 1972. He has since participated in over twenty-five exhibitions throughout Canada. His art works have been purchased for public, corporate and private collections in Canada, the United States, Ireland, Germany and Switzerland.
