Description:
"The Terrace of Dreams Cottage (Lamp, Night Light)" is a completely self-contained miniature lamp/habitat. Its structure is built entirely from popsicle sticks, assembled into the walls, roof and terrace. Four compact LED light modules are embedded in a beech base, creating a self-contained night light: to turn the lamp on or off, the cottage is simply lifted or placed on its base - no external wiring or switches are visible.
Warm light only comes through the windows of the cottage. Along the edge of the terrace, bamboo skewers act as anchor spikes, anchoring the cottage. A small beaded "bush" woven on thin wire sits in one corner of the terrace, providing a splash of color and life. The base also features the artists' signature in the form of a stick-on sticker.
This piece is part of the Magic Wands series, an exploration of how simple materials can be transformed into objects of wonder.
Its creation required meticulous woodworking, precise beadwork, and the clever integration of a hidden lighting mechanism.
The result is both a delightful miniature house and a functional lamp, inviting viewers to rediscover the charm of simple, everyday materials.
Emerging from an educational creativity kit series published in Ukraine (2008–2011), the piece is a fully realized culmination, requiring months of full-time work to construct.
Part of the “Magic Sticks” artistic movement, this work invites viewers to rediscover creativity in simplicity. Its delicate form—built by hand and refined with patient skill—speaks to a universal impulse: to build worlds of hope and imagination from everyday fragments.
