Yann Hervis is a contemporary French artist renowned for his innovative approach to marquetry and his unique artistic techniques. Coming from a lineage steeped in woodcraft, Hervis's artistic journey is deeply rooted in his family's tradition. He trained as a designer at the Orleans School of Art under the guidance of painter Roger Toulouse, initially focusing on design before later embracing marquetry as his primary medium. Since 1983, Hervis has exhibited his work in major cities around the world, including Paris, New York, Chicago, Milan, Tokyo, and Singapore, and his creations are highly sought after by architects and galleries.

In a significant shift in his artistic journey, Hervis moved away from traditional marquetry to develop a new technique he calls "palimpsests," which is based on the concept of "metamorphoses." This innovative approach showcases his ability to redefine his creative expression and invent a new artistic vocabulary. Hervis's work is featured in many private and public collections both in France and internationally. His art has been selected and purchased by the National Contemporary Art Fund for the permanent collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris and has also been acquired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Some of his notable projects include creating frescoes and screens for the French embassy in Montevideo, a portrait of Yves Saint Laurent for his showroom in Chicago, frescoes for the MSD Chibret laboratory in Paris, 13 screens for the international conference room at the Champs Elysées in Paris, a screen for the French Consulate in Rio de Janeiro, two screens for Hollywood Studios (Modern Props) in Los Angeles, a large fresco for J.C. Will Associates in Singapore, screens for the Foreign Office in Paris, and tableaux for the French embassy in Tokyo during the G7 summit in 1993. Through these works, Hervis has made a lasting impact on the world of contemporary art, blending tradition with innovation to create timeless pieces.
