Pour notre projet autour du tango, nous avons observé des performances données par un couple de danseurs professionnels, d’abord en présentiel, puis via Zoom pendant la pandémie. Cette collaboration a culminé avec une performance publique, où nous dessinions et filmions en direct le couple en train de danser, inspirant ainsi un corpus d’œuvres dédiées au tango.
Ceci est une œuvre que j'ai créée dans mon atelier après l'une de leurs performances : dans une pièce sombre, éclairée uniquement par une lampe sphérique placée au centre de la piste de danse, cagoulés gantés et chaussés de cuir rouge, le couple se balançait. Ici, j'ai voulu explorer le tango à travers les complexités des relations humaines, où l'équilibre, les limites et la connexion sont constamment en jeu.
L'oeuvre est très soigneusement empaquetée démontée de son chassis puis roulée autour d'un tube dans lequel se trouve le chassis démonté.

Clotilde Maillard was born in France in 1960. Trained at the Académie Julian, where she perfected the artistic techniques of the time, with a predilection for drawing, under the direction of Roland Guillaumel, Grand Prix de Rome in sculpture, she then went to live two years in England, followed by more than a year in the United States, driven by the desire to discover new artistic perspectives and improve her English. Mother of three children, she was able to transmit to each of them her passion for art: one through social sciences and psychology, another towards architecture, and the youngest towards digital imaging. Today, she lives and works in Occitanie, in the south of France.
Deeply convinced by the richness and infinite possibilities of pictorial representation, Clotilde Maillard explores a wide variety of supports (canvas, wood, plexiglass, cardboard, paper, fabric, tapestry) and techniques (oil, tempera, acrylic, glycerol, ink, pastel, charcoal). She is interested in all artistic genres — portrait, landscape, live model, figurative abstraction, and many others. What guides her art, above all, is the reflection provoked by her environment. These reflections inspire mental images, some of which impose themselves as obvious, dictating her choices of dimensions, colors and context. Passionate, she collects photographs, family films and samples of fabrics and colors to nourish and guide her creative process.
Clotilde Maillard is a member of the Dessiner le Vivant collective, a collective of artists committed to the representation of life in movement. Each member expresses this theme through their own techniques, whether it be painting, drawing, engraving or printing on fabric, and others. Together, they have explored various themes such as tango, contemporary dance or horses. For their tango project, they observed performances given by a professional dancing couple, first in person, then via Zoom during the pandemic. This collaboration culminated in a public performance where the artists drew and filmed the couple dancing live, thus inspiring a series of works dedicated to tango.
