Watercolor

Watercolor is a painting in which gum arabic binds transparent pigments revealing the support of the painting. The gouache, of identical composition, is opaque. A watercolor is a water-based painting on paper. We rarely speak of a painting for a work painted in watercolor. Watercolor paintings are considered to be a unique way to creatively represent dreams, illusions, emotions and luminous feelings using water soluble pigments. However, painting with watercolors can be difficult. It's a difficult medium to master, in large part because it can be ruthless and unpredictable. Mistakes are difficult to correct and its fluid nature makes it difficult to control. Yet it is these very qualities that give the medium its undeniable charm.

Natif du Mans (Sarthe), il y a vécu jusqu'à la fin de l'adolescence. Petit, le jeune Claude Hercent possède une vocation innée pour le dessin.
Il habite à proximité du circuit des vingt quatre heures, et sa curiosité va lui permettre de voir de très belles voitures, et ces belles carrosseries, dont les courbes vont le captiver, va le faire s'orienter tout naturellement vers la reproduction d'automobiles.
C'est d'ailleurs à une manifestation des vingt quatre heures du Mans, au milieu des années cinquante, où il va entendre pour la première fois, diffusée par les hauts-parleurs du circuit. Une musique joyeuse et entraînante : le jazz ! Sidney Bechet, avec «Les oignons» sera l'élément déclencheur qui lui fera aimer ce style de musique pour toujours. Le ton était donné : pour rester dans l'ambiance, il dessinerait des voitures en écoutant des airs de jazz...
Cela s'applique toujours aujourd'hui, et cela s'impose, car il a ajouté une corde à son arc : le portrait d'artistes de jazz.
Aquarelles, gouaches, huiles, crayons de couleur, toutes ces techniques font partie de son univers. Elles ont été aquises d'une manière autodidacte au fur et à mesure de son expérience,
Quant à son style, tantôt académique, tantôt moderne voire pop-art, il reflète une certaine forme de réalisme.
Il est heureux aujourd'hui de vivre tout près d'un endroit des plus créatifs et dont il apprécie les artistes participants : La Fondation La Borie.
