This painting is based on Modigliani's Nu couche (sur la cote gauche), 1917. Sold at Sotheby’s in May 2018 for $157.2 million. This was his largest nude and the only one one of the entire figure. Her bright red lips and dark hair contrast strikingly with the expanse of exposed, smooth flesh; a classical odalisque. She stares assuredly at the viewer, floating off on her bright wellow (RNLI-coloured) lilo, but danger looms...
....during the current heatwave it is particularly necessary to warn people of overconfidence at sea on inflatable toys.

I have been living and painting in France since 2006. I still retain my penchant for joie de vie and double entendre, and those other English quirks. I've enjoyed painting all my life, but now I'm serious! I paint mostly in oils, generally brightly coloured in a medium size to small format. Subjects vary from abstract, through whimsical and enigmatic to classic landscape. Styles also vary considerably. People, animals, trees and urban scenes feature in many of my works.
