I work in a spontaneous, intuitive and gestural way, where the unconscious takes more place than the conscious. I do not seek to represent my environment, but rather to evoke an emotion. First I choose a color palette, then I spread the paint without really thinking. When I'm satisfied with the result, I take a break that allows me to think about what's next. I add details that guide the eye through the work and give it meaning.

Chantal Proulx is a contemporary French-Canadian painter. After experimenting with several media such as sculpture, painting on silk, and watercolor, she finally adopted acrylic painting and mixed techniques. Her goal through her art is to make living environments more joyful and appealing to the eye, creating emotion in the spectator. Proulx uses vibrant colors and quick gestures in an almost unconscious manner. She adds texture with graphite, watercolor pencils, or charcoal while the paint is still wet.
