Célestin Messaggio is a contemporary French artist known for his exceptional work with pastels and later, oil painting. Initially recognized as a true ambassador of pastel in France, he began to explore new forms of expression in 1997, gradually transitioning from pastel to oil. This shift allowed him to re-appropriate the medium, using its malleable qualities to create depth and texture. Each pure color marks the beginning of a transformation, blending through the use of knives, brushes, and even his fingers directly on the canvas. Messaggio's technique involves a dynamic process of layering, scraping, and adding, all aimed at achieving a vibrant and accomplished use of color.
A former student of the Nude School of Mantes-la-Jolie, Messaggio's work is characterized by a pictorial graphic that combines volumes, contrasts, and a rich interplay of lines, shapes, and colors. His inventive approach continually revisits and reshapes his artistic narrative.
Messaggio holds several prestigious titles and recognitions, including being an Official Academic Knight of Arts and Letters of Greci-Marino, Italy, and a member of the French Merit of Devotion, for which he received the Silver Medal for the Arts. His works have been acquired by various institutions, including the City of Saint Martin, the City of Saint André de l'Eure, Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, and the Baudy Museum in Giverny.
