Cathie Berthon, born in 1968 in Marseille, is a professional artist since 2005.
She exhibits in different galleries in France and worldwide, and ininternational art fairs (Affordable Art Fair New York, London, Milan, Brussels, Amsterdam, Lille Art Up...).
She mainly paints portraits by exploring different techniques. Very attracted by the charm of old family photos and icons of the 50/60's, she creates artworks based on a mixture of images, papers, vintage fabrics, which are digitalised to be cut and assembled with computer tools.
She has chosen to digitalize her compositions on wood for a vintage look, and enhances them with collages and used paint circles, her signature. An epoxy resin covers the whole and gives a precious and contemporary aspect to each work. Thus his creations have a retro and very contemporary spirit at the same time, which are like fragments of memory.
In her latest serie Cubes, she explores a little more the portrait on wood support by treating it in volume. These wooden cubes of different heights pixelize a photographic composition that is manually transferred onto the support, which reveals the veining of the wood. Some cubes are painted or burned, then each one is resin-coated as well as the background of the work. These new half-painting, half-sculpture works offer a surprising 3D effect.
