Suzan Habib, known artistically as Cash, is a queer artist originally from Kabul, Afghanistan, where she lived until the age of 16. Her upbringing was deeply influenced by religious norms that viewed science and knowledge as misleading. Despite this, she was raised by well-educated parents who aspired to spread knowledge and improve Afghanistan. Unfortunately, their vision was ahead of its time for the country.
Art has always been a means for Habib to express her experiences with society and people, forming the core of her creative work. Her approach to technique and color has evolved significantly, particularly over the past four years, during which she resumed her artistic practice after a hiatus. Her first series, "Shattered Country," was featured at the International Afghan Film Festival at Diesel Verkstad.
Today, Habib employs a variety of techniques and colors, moving beyond traditional portraiture to explore more abstract and unpredictable forms. She finds inspiration in both independent and renowned artists, especially those working in pop art and street art, such as Voka and Jimmy Law. These influences resonate with her taste for techniques and color choices.
Habib’s career took a significant turn after her first exhibition, which led to opportunities that expanded her view of her artistic potential. Her work continues to surprise and excite her, reflecting an ongoing journey of exploration and self-discovery.
