Cannibal Malabar, also known as Chloe, is a French artist from Oyonnax, who embarked on a creative journey at an early age. After studying Applied Arts in Bron, near Lyon, she pursued further education at ENAAI in Chambery. Upon graduating in illustration and graphic design, she relocated to Lyon in 2010, where she began to cultivate her unique artistic vision, eventually gravitating towards painting.
Chloe navigates within a hyper-pigmented universe, where she endeavors to capture the diversity of female beauty. Her use of vibrant colors imbues her works with a tangy, almost dreamlike quality. She celebrates the myriad of emotions conveyed by the human face, accentuating each nuance to convey the intensity she experienced upon first encountering her subjects. Her portraits draw inspiration from a variety of sources, including the fashion industry, social media, nature, and even food. Whether sparked by a particular color, texture, or silhouette, Chloe's art reflects a kaleidoscope of influences.
Under the moniker Cannibal Malabar, Chloe employs various techniques to bring her visions to life. She employs a surprising watercolor technique on paper, where pigments and support are pushed to their limits and sealed with resin for a striking final result. Alternatively, she utilizes acrylic on canvas, yielding equally vibrant outcomes.
Chloe's work has been showcased extensively in exhibitions across Lyon and Paris, as well as internationally in cities such as Geneva and Australia. Her art captivates audiences with its bold colors, emotive portraits, and unique aesthetic sensibility.
