My art training began at UCLA in the early 1960s, as a break from my pursuit of a major in psychology. I was ready to return to the grind after a few painting courses and, while working in various research jobs, finally received my Ph.D. in experimental psychology. I continued painting while in graduate school and in the first few years of my full-time appointment in the Psychology Department at California State University, Northridge, where I taught perception, statistics and research design.
During a painting hiatus, I designed and made belly dance costumes (and danced, of course) and completed two advanced statistics books co-authored with Prof. Linda Fidell. Since my retirement from teaching in 1996, I continue to be involved with consulting in research design and statistical applications as well as in writing and updating our books. The two most recent editions of the books were completed in 2000, at which time the urge to return to painting became overwhelming.
One of the perks of emeritus status at the university is the privilege of taking courses anywhere on the campus. So, I've been participating in classes in the Art Department since 2000 and working in my studio every chance I get. My art work continues to combine my pleasures in artistic creativity and technology.
