Après des études dans les écoles d’art parisiennes (ENSAAMA et Beaux-Arts) entre 1979 et 1984 et après avoir travaillé en tant que peintre et sculpteur pour les théâtres nationaux essentiellement à Paris mais aussi dans d’autres régions françaises pendant une dizaine d’années, Bruno Sentier s’installe à la Martinique en 1989.
Entre 1985 et 2010, il réalise de nombreuses scénographies théâtrales principalement dans la Caraïbe. Depuis la fin des années 1980, il présente régulièrement son travail de création visuelle dans des expositions personnelles ou collectives dans la Caraïbe et dans l’Hexagone.
Il a enseigné à l’école supérieure d’art de Fort-de-France (aujourd’hui Campus Caraïbéen des arts) de 1990 à 2017. Durant la même période, il a été chargé de cours à plusieurs reprises à l’université des Antilles et il a activement participé aux travaux du Centre d’études et de recherches en esthétique et arts plastiques (CEREAP), un laboratoire rattaché à cette même université. Tout au long de ces années, il a publié de nombreux articles, notamment dans la revue "Recherches en esthétique", et a donné des conférences concernant la création visuelle en Martinique et en Guadeloupe.
En 2016, il soutient une thèse de doctorat en arts à Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne dont l’intitulé est "La part du désastre" et le sous-titre "La pratique de l’assemblage comme rituel de résistance".
En 2017, Sentier quitte l’enseignement et la Martinique.
Il vit et travaille actuellement dans le Finistère Nord.
