Born in Mexico City in 1970, Bosco Sodi is a renowned contemporary artist recognized for his use of raw, organic materials to create large-scale, textured paintings and sculptures. His work emphasizes the physicality of materials like clay, sawdust, and pure pigments, embracing the unpredictability and imperfection of natural processes. Sodi's artistic approach, which he describes as "controlled chaos," seeks to transcend conceptual boundaries and form a deep spiritual connection between the artist and the work.
Influenced by movements such as Arte Povera, Land Art, and Minimalism, Sodi’s pieces often remain untitled, focusing on the immediate presence of the materials and the artwork itself. His creative process is shaped by philosophies such as wabi-sabi, valuing the beauty of impermanence. In addition to his paintings, Sodi creates sculptures using clay and volcanic rock, drawing inspiration from his Mexican heritage.
Sodi's work has been exhibited globally, and his artistic practice extends beyond his studio. In 2013, he founded the Fundación Casa Wabi in Oaxaca, a cultural center fostering collaboration between international artists and local communities. In 2022, he launched Assembly, a nonprofit exhibition space in Monticello, New York.
