Blaine Clayton
I was bourn In Salt Lake City in 1950. I discovered I had a talent for drawing when I was around 8. I would flip through an encyclopedia and copy interesting faces. Art was always my favorite topic. In high school I had Loran Follend as my art teacher he was a little weird but he was a good instructor and I learned about landscape painting and composition from him. I attended Collage at BYU I was going to be an art teacher, but I didn't like the way the education program and the art program were separate. So I changed my major to psychology and used my electives to take class in the Art major program. I have worked in the behavioral sciences for 30 years. Much of the time doing art on my own time. I joined the Utah Watercolor society 10 year ago and participate with them in Juried competitions and plein-air paint outs. I also participate in around 4 plein-air competitions each year. I belong to a co-op Gallery called Local Colors of Utah in Sugarhouse. I paint and work in the Gallery. In 2014 I sponsored the first Sugarhouse plein-air paint out.

I keep selling truck pictures
I would love to show you some examples of art I have produced in the last little while but I can't figure out how to add images. Oh well it seams like the last few paintings I sold were of trucks and one house that was in the home show.
As I am writing the Sugar house Plein-air paint out is going on. I started this and funded the first year so I hope it is a success. A week ago I went to the Spring City plein-air paint out and it was a lot of fun.
2014 My art year in review
It has been a fun productive year for me. I have leared some things and had some successes. I traveld to four plein-air paint out competitions sold paintings in all but the last one. Enterd a plethera of art shows, presented my art in a co-op gallery. Sponcerd the first anual Sugarhouse plein air paint out, and completed a lot of new paintings. I leard to make certain that hotel webb sight report acuratly the distence they are from the desired location. The first paintout I was in was in Torry Utah just outside of Capital Reef It was beutiful and fun but we happend to be there during a season of bighting nats you could not get away from them and bug repelant did not work and their bight left welts that lasted more than a week. My wife came and she has post tramatic from the ordeal. I did sell two painting and the people were very gracious. Next I went to Summer Fest in Logan Utah. I got a Hotel in Honeyvill. The webb sight said it was 15 miles away turns out that was as a crow flies. It was actuly 60 miles. I sold a painting here and did one along the rought from Honeyvill to Logan that sold later. Then I did the Competitions in Wasatch County. One for Heber, one for Midway, a quick draw and one for Wasach county I sould a painting here. Last of all I drove doun to the sothern part of the state and partisipated in the plein-air paint out in Escalanted Utah. no sales here. It was fall and the colors were beutiful. At the presant time I have paintings in a show in Bountiful, Ogden, and Logan, and I have painings up in the Local Colors galery in Sugarhouse.
