Bernardo or Bê Sadala was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1980 to a family of artists.

Bê realized his artistic calling  when he first started drawing waves as a child . Ten years later he produced his first painting, revealing his “Adventurer” spirit which kickstarted his artistic career with surfart and founding the social project “Favela Surf Art”.

In 1998 had his first solo exhibition and since then has participated in several exhibiting events.

In 2002 still in Rio de Janeiro, he received a grant with merit at Eduardo Camões’s studio, local landscape painter and ancient historian, building on his natural aptitude for human form and figure.

In 2003 won the second prize in the “Billabong Tag a Tunk” contest, launching 3 surf-wear collections of hand-painted originals.

In 2019 published his first (auto biographic) book called "O pintor e a santa luz".

Above all, an admirer of beauty and Humanity in a multidimensional perspective. Close to that pure simple immensity is where we can find his artistic spark and creative impulse, inspired by the ‘impression’ of a landscape or the essence a portrait.

Like the Impressionist masters in the pursuit for the perfect lighting, the open-air is his favorite studio, where he truly feels one with nature.

A strong connection with the sea, some natural monuments and his spirituality, both linked to his home country cultural heritage are intimate subjects to him as related to his ancestry. As the “Painter of that Empire”, he honorably seeks to treasure, disclose or raise awareness trough art for such cultural greatness that he so much admires.

Driven by a naturalist soul and sincere visual orientation, he mostly enjoys capturing instant perceptions of nature as embedded reflexes of his own sensorial experience and impact, while interpreting a real or a transcendental world.

Keeping an open, emotionally charged approach, that allows him to channel his message and experiences to canvas while evoking a spiritual or artistic inspiration, honoring his roots, devotion, heritage and Masters.

Beyond the easel, making art closer, more accessible, sustainable, interactive, and integrated in everyday life is also what he seeks to achieve through his teaching, street art and shaping of eco-friendly wooden surfboards.

Bê has the grateful state of mind  required to absorve surrounding beauty with artistic sensibility and the generous impulse to honor such blessings humbly using his artistic voice, either willing to raise awareness or simply wishing to ‘color’ life’s darker side. ∞
