Missakian's Cubist paintings invite the viewer into a wonderful world of color and motion, merging discord with harmony, often inspired by the throbbing tempo of Jazz that continuously vibrates his studio. His complex compositions are boldly painted in brilliant Fauve colors, with strokes that are linear but always casual and fluid. His whimsical work blends striking notes of Matisse, Braque, Picasso and Chagall in such a personal way that they become both an homage as well as a signature style for him. Like a good drum soloist improvising on a well known melody, Missakian tries to get his viewers to see familiar objects in a new way, by fine tuning his lines and forms.
Through the years, Missakian's paintings have garnered numerous solo exhibitions nationally and internationally and can be found in many private and corporate collections across Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia, Japan and Armenia. Currently living and working in Montreal, this contemporary Canadian artist is listed in Who's Who In American Art and Biennial Guide to Canadian Artists.
