Vasily Matveevich Belikov (1922-1994) was a Russian artist whose life and work were shaped by a profound dedication to creativity and resilience. Born in Svishchevka, Tambov Province, Russia in 1922, Belikov's artistic journey began with formal studies at the Astrakhan Art School from 1938 to 1941. However, his education was interrupted by his service in the armed forces as a sailor during the Second World War, a period that left an indelible mark on his life and art.
After his military service from 1941 to 1947, Belikov resumed his artistic pursuits, attending the Penza Art School from 1947 to 1950. Despite facing significant challenges, including a battle with tuberculosis in his 40s, Belikov persevered and ultimately triumphed over the illness. This experience fueled his dedication to his craft, leading him to devote himself wholeheartedly to his artistry.
Throughout his career, Belikov actively participated in summer residencies for creative art, such as "Academicheskaya," where he forged connections with leading artists of his time. In 1975, he was honored with acceptance into the USSR Union of Artists, a testament to his talent and contributions to the artistic community.
Belikov's artistic oeuvre primarily focused on landscapes, although he also explored still life and portraits to a lesser extent. His works are characterized by a deep appreciation for the natural world and a keen ability to capture its essence on canvas.
