Through the use of this pigment powder (dry pastel), which reveals the most subtle nuances of tone like no other pictorial substance, Atelier Cléophée creates worlds of form and colour that take their source in the primordial energy of nature. Here, the artist has taken her inspiration from the landscapes of the magnificent natural site ‘Le sentier des ocres’ near the village of Roussillon, in the Luberon region of Provence (southern France) - famous for its extraordinary landscapes dominated by shades of yellow, orange and red - to translate the colourful richness of the site's cliffs, hills and brightly coloured ochre quarries by blending her pastels of yellow ochre, copper, purple, sienna and olive green.

As the parisian artist explains, ‘My work aims to question our relationship with the elements and their scarcity in the age of the Anthropocene and questions of sustainability. These elemental worlds are at the heart of my chromatic and graphic research, through the dreamlike quality and richness of colour that they evoke. Pastel is seen as a trace, an imprint. These visual explorations are centred on the idea of capturing light and paying tribute to the beauty of living things.
