In Anil Gaikwad’s work, one can easily fathom a certain light emanating from the expanding colour areas illuminating the picture space, which not only enchants us emotively, but also engages us meditatively. These are sensitive works, sensitizing us to the artist’s quest for another reality—a reality which can be felt, realized, but have no easy descriptions, no parallels that can be drawn from the day-to-day reality, as we perceive it. Each image offered here thus becomes a reality that sustains itself on its own terms. Painter and thinker J Swaminathan had once pointed out that if the image is strong, it acquires a reality of its own. It does not represent this or that and deserves our attention as if we were seeing something ‘new’ and ‘fresh’. This view can easily be attributed to the images Anil Gaikwad has created with passion and certain courage, by delving deep into the inner self and thus by bringing out the after-effects of the tremor felt while unleashing his creative energy.
