Original Artwork

This is the artwork of a very beautiful young 24 year old with systemic lupus. She was in Northwestern Hospital in 2003 for a stem cell transplant and an art therapist introduced her to pastels. She was in isolation and her activity level was practically bedridden. Her pictures were all drawn in the hospital during various times of her illness. My favorite is "Filth", it describes how she felt she couldn't get over a brick wall of sickness and the bugs represent how she felt dirty and gross. The evil faces were hallucinations from the fever and medications. There were happy times and very bad times, she drew pictures so she could escape the madness. She was almost in remission, after one year, and received a grant to attend an art school, until last month, she had a set-back and now is back in the hospital. She is receiving chemo again but guess what...She is drawing again! I will post them as she sends them to me. Please send her wishes and support. I will give her the message. Thank you!
