Anxana, born in 1980 in Moscow, Russia, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores profound themes of body, female sexuality, womanhood, and emotional development. Her artistic journey began in the realm of photography, where she honed her skills through formal education in various prestigious institutions, including Fotodepartament in Saint Petersburg, and the Royal Academy of Art in the Netherlands. However, as she delved deeper into the world of art, Anxana’s practice evolved from traditional photography to encompass video-art, performance, and ultimately installation and painting.

Anxana’s preferred mediums include acrylics on canvas or cardboard, often made with fluorescent paint, and a variety of mixed media techniques such as installation, graphics, and collage, where she combines these diverse techniques to create immersive, multi-sensory experiences. Her work often manifests in bold, bright neon colors.

As a self-taught painter, Anxana’s work is characterized by its seismic exploration of female identity and the emotional landscape of womanhood. Her use of glowing neon paint adds a vibrant, almost electric energy to her compositions, symbolizing the dynamic and often intense emotional experiences.

Throughout her career, Anxana has sought to deepen her practice through various workshops and residencies. She studied collage under Olga Averyanova, the head of the Photography Department at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow, and trained in installation art with Eldar Ganeev at the Moscow School of Contemporary Art (MSCA), further expanding her artistic vocabulary.

Anxana’s work is a compelling blend of visual and conceptual elements, reflecting her continuous evolution as an artist and her commitment to exploring the complexities of female experience through her distinctive, vibrant style.

Currently resides in Moscow, Russia.
