The sculpture’s form echoes the organic flow found in nature, where nothing is perfectly symmetrical, yet everything feels balanced. The raw clay reflects this sense of untouched, unrefined earth, representing natural strength and imperfection. In contrast, the glossy glaze dripping down the sculpture symbolizes movement, like water slowly carving its path through stone.
The glaze itself is a significant part of the story. I personally developed this glaze over many experiments. Unlike traditional glazes that completely run down the surface, this one thickens into a controlled, elegant drop. It creates a tension between the rough and the smooth, the natural and the refined, a tension that I find deeply intriguing.
For me, the piece embodies a moment of stillness in time, a captured flow where nature and craft meet. It's not just a form; it's a reflection of the slow, deliberate processes of creation—both in nature and in the studio.

My name is Anniek van Geene and I'am 24 years old.
I studied ceramics at Sint Lucas (Netherlands) and graduated in 2021 with my final project, "Ceiling the Moon." After completing my studies, I opened my own studio and worked part time for an artist. Since 2022, I have been employed as a ceramic technician at Royal Delft. In May 2024, I opened my new studio in Geertruidenberg, where I offer workshops to pass on the craft and demonstrate its unique qualities. I find it importend that people know how ceramics are made. In September 2024, I completed the professional course in ceramic industry. Currently, I am working on my first collection, inspired by the organic forms found in nature.
