The debris that beckons to me, the bottoms of drawers, the bits of nothing, are for me a living and demanding material. I see a mysterious necessity in their transformation into faces, crucifixes, ghosts, reliquaries. Their truth emerges there, with a disturbing violence that reminds me of the exquisite corpses of the early age of surrealism.
There is within each of us a core of animist belief. This magical thought that gives life to objects is the childhood that vibrates within us. It is also a way of holding back time, of gluing together the scattered pieces of life.
These fragile objects are a way for me to look the ephemeral in the face, and to celebrate it.
