Anna Shibanova is a graduate of the Academy of Applied Arts in Saint Petersburg, where she developed a profound appreciation for materials during her textile training. Her artistic journey has encompassed various mediums, including painting and screen printing, before she found her passion for engraving. Throughout her work, Shibanova consistently seeks the alchemy between texture, material, and color across these different techniques.

Engraving, for her, serves as a field of experimentation. She enjoys exploring woodcutting, which allows her to treat architecture with flat areas of color, and etching, which helps structure material and add texture to her forms. Drawing from her years of experience in interior design, her artworks exhibit a refined, stylized, and decorative character.

Shibanova’s themes often delve into metaphysical dimensions, questioning existence through representations of cities and characters. In her view, cities and characters lead lives that are independent of their inhabitants. She captures urban moments that feel fragile and silent, evoking a sense of rusting solitude and clear stillness. Her works reflect traces of the past, imprinted in stone, showcasing memories of walls and the remnants of history that shape the essence of the environments she portrays.
