I have been exposed to arts since the very childhood, when I attended my first drawing classes and visited museums and exhibitions with my mother. At the time of studying at the secondary school, I also attended Riga School of Arts, where various subjects, like painting, drawing, and filming were taught. My return to the creative field happened after a graduation of Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, one of the best business schools in the Nordic region, with an admission competition of 30 people per place. With a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Business Administration I exposed myself to the advertising industry, firstly as a project manager, and only several years later on as a freelance creative person, what was the result of my passion for creativity. That time I was into graphic design, video making, and photography.
All this time I have been painting and drawing, but did not put the most of my effort to this field of arts. However, last years I started to pay more attention to it, along with promoting and selling my artworks to a quite close audience of friends and good acquaintances.
In drawing and painting I am interested in catching moments, which often associate with my past experiences. I like to depict moments, often captured before and sparkled in my memory. I like to use my imagination and overlay simple life moments, making parallels to different cultures and places. I like finding similarities, playing with associations and emotions. My works can be portraits, landscapes, or urban scenes.
Talking about photography, it is much longer story, since photography lasts for already three generations in my family. I started to take photos at school, and then I developed my style throughout many years of working with different film and digital cams. I have been to street photography, portrait photography, as well as fashion and conceptual. During various periods I focused on different fields. Often it was about seeing a moment or capturing the pre-imagined. This form of art has its limitations, so I thing that is why I started to paint again, what allows me to express myself more freely without a need for e.g. a model.
I have tried several styles, but still there are quite limited to impressionism and minimalism. The techniques I use are quite different, which includes a lot of experimentation with strokes, using watercolour, oil, and acrylic paint as well as pastel oils, ink pens, and colour pencils.
Mostly I am inspired by colour and light, what equals life for me. People faces also often capture my attention, Sometimes just slight details or just scenes I see around might drive me to draw or paint. I also get inspired by works of other artists, old school or contemporary, not directly, but as a fact of art presence in their lives. One might say that art is useless, I would say that if somebody likes and needs it, it is not. Of course, it belongs to the field of aesthetics, but hopefully finds its spectator.
