The Narrow Gate is a mixed media painting on board. I was having difficulty selecting a name for this piece and a good friend of mine said when she saw it it reminded her of the a verse from the Bible, (Matthew 7:13-14). "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. [...]
The Narrow Gate is a mixed media painting on board. I was having difficulty selecting a name for this piece and a good friend of mine said when she saw it it reminded her of the a verse from the Bible, (Matthew 7:13-14)
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it"
Many of my works have a great deal of texture, although this one the texture is applied in a different way through the treatment and application of paint layers and mediums. There is a narrowing or an opening near the top center area of the painting which is the narrow gate.
I felt this was quite appropriate to the piece and life in general. This passage may have different meanings for many people but in the end we are all trying to get through life with it's challenges. Thus the title 'The Narrow Gate'.
Thank you to a great friend:)
