In 2018, Andy Schweigard found his way back to painting (for the first time since childhood) through several wrong turns and dead ends.

With his art, he moves between worlds both in the choice of motifs and in metaphorical terms.
Thus, his latest works, with mythological depictions as well as modern landscape paintings, nudes and impressionistic gimmicks, feature very different pictorial themes. The individual motif forms the intersection, the window to a related place, a state in the unconscious, to another world that becomes accessible through the work of art.

One could say that he learned his skills autodidactically, but this would only be true to a limited extent. Rather, he does not follow any didactic teaching at all in his development (neither in the academic field nor in self-study) but concentrates on creating works and allows himself to be carried to further developmental steps through experience and ever new inspiration.

For him, the painting process is always a journey to an unknown place, somewhere between self-therapy and exploring the universe.
In recent years he has worked mainly with oil paints, but always likes to use his "gateway drug" of watercolors or other graphic means of expression (such as ballpoint pen drawings or digital photo works).
