I was born and grew up in Moldova, and a lot of my early paintings show beautiful Moldovan landscapes. I also have paintings showing our traditional rustic houses.

The painting Grandparent’s House - or “Casa Bunicilor” in Romanian - shows a traditional Moldovan countryside house.

It reminds me of my own grandparents’ house, where I have spent so many beautiful summer vacations. The houses were usually coloured in bright blue or green, and the roofs were covered with clay tiles or were thatched with water reed.

I have used intense colours to emphasize the beauty of the village where I’ve spent so many summers of my childhood. The bright blue sky contrasts with the heat-burnt grass, while the middle of the painting is dominated by the brown and red colours.

I'm Andrei Voica, a Moldovan impressionist artist.

I fell in love with painting at a very young age - I was about 5 when my dad bought me my first watercolours. He noticed that I enjoyed drawing and painting and he encouraged me to carry on.

I then discovered oil painting and I knew that this is what I wanted to do.

My painting skills have developed during my 8 years of academic art studies at the High School of Fine Arts "Igor Vieru" in Chisinau, Moldova.

The distinctive features of my art are the bold, vivid colours I use in my paintings and the alla prima technique, which is a direct painting approach where paint is applied wet on wet without letting earlier layers dry.

I have chosen impressionism as my style of painting because I think it is the best way to paint nature. It is expressive, eye-catching and it provokes the viewer to interpret the artwork in their own way and to find something that is close to their heart.

My paintings are in private collections in the U.S., UK, Romania, Moldova, Italy, France and Russia.
