Alison Le Double, alias Mahé, is a contemporary French artist. The human being is at the center of her artistic approach. She explores through painting, drawing and engraving the relationships that man has with himself, with others and his environment. Her paintings are a reflection on our place in society, a questioning of the norms, the conditioning and the conscious and unconscious mechanisms that govern the human being and the social structures.

Strongly inspired by expressionism but also by artists such as Egon Schiele, Gustave Klimt or Basquiat, she experiments with the portrait and the body in their multiple aspects. The goal is to account for an interiority and to inscribe it in the exteriority, in the facade that constitutes the body and the face. Thus, a look, a raised eyebrow, the position of a hand, the posture of a body or the tension of a muscle are the direct and unfiltered expression of an inner life, bubbling with thoughts and feelings.

Literature, philosophy and poetry also greatly influence the artist’s work. The goal is to use multiple techniques to multiply the possibilities of expression. The use of collage, poetry, painting, pastels or even everyday objects, all sometimes overlapping or assembling, tends towards a single purpose: to create a space in which everyone can be susceptible to recognize themselves.
