Part of the Geometric Still Life series, the concept is inspired by the desire of exploring geometry through still life, exploration that I thought about, in the period of monotony that we all lived, in the pandemic, when everything seemed monochromatic, flat and geometric.
Starting from a simple photo, using Photoshop, I decomposed some elements of the composition into the same geometric shape. At the same time, I kept the original form for one of them.
Based on these images, reinterpreted through painting, I wanted to give the viewer a colorful picture of the geometry around us, returning the lights and shadows in different tones of the same color and to convey the feeling that beyond monotony and platitude, there is color.

Alida Velea is a contemporary Romanian painter born in Slanic, where her love for art grew amidst nature and the traditional, mystical stories of her homeland. Initially pursuing a career in engineering, her passion for fine arts eventually led her to transition into painting, despite initial controversy from those around her. She later earned a First-Class Honours Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom.
Alida's work explores her cultural identity and its interaction with the social events that shape modern life. In a time of rapid technological advancement, her paintings serve as reflections on what she believes should be remembered and preserved. Her style is predominantly figurative, which she considers a core element of her national identity, and she often combines this traditional approach with modern technologies and diverse mediums to create unique, authentic artworks.
Inspired by Impressionist masters and influenced by Cubism, particularly artists like Gris, Braque, and Picasso, Alida also draws from contemporary artists who express their personal experiences through painting. Her goal as an artist is to connect the past with the present and encourage dialogue, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities of identity and shared human experiences.
