The "Carmen-Juan" series arose as the embodiment of the idea of ​​merging two literary characters: Carmen and Don Juan.
In the 90s, I was fascinated by the art of Japanese ukiyo-e woodcuts, the works of Muranoba, Hokusai, the shunga style. In parallel, he explored German expressionism. I was inspired by the idea of ​​synthesizing both styles and expressing it both on oil on canvas and in etching and performance. To do this, I chose the strategy of appropriating and rethinking the work of my favorite artists in the vein of post-conceptualism. He made a series of paintings and etchings, a number of performances and art objects.

The erotic engraving turned out to be as filled with energy, expression and emotions as possible.

They are made in the "dry needle" technique, printed from an iron plate. The edge of the galvanized sheet has been finished with a chisel to create a torn edging that brings a state of tension and creates a special mood. The pattern was applied with a needle, without etching. I applied the paint with a brush and printed prints on Fabriano paper. As a result, we get a serial, but unique black and white print, each of which has a unique texture.

Relationship with other series: The painterly idea is that the color image fades into black and white and back again as if pulsing, creating the illusion of movement. Thus, we get a reference to the pictorial series "aspiration".

During this period, I seriously considered the ideas of the great Russian poet-prophet Velimir Khlebnikov and their connection with Austrian expressionism, I was fond of the works of the sculptor Wilhelm Lembruck. Created references, rethinking the work of a famous master.

Post-conceptualism was very popular in the nineties and it seemed to us that we were at the forefront of the art movement, I was very productive and creative, thanks to which I received a personal exhibition in 1996 at the Asti Gallery, which presented a series of my graphic and paintings ""Carmen-Juan" and performance with the participation of professional actors (see link).
