BAD POETRY is a collection of visual works in which the traditional compositional procedures are placed on a new level, where the interpretation of reality takes over. The word has more importance in these compositions than in any other work previously made by Guano. The artist responds to the need to highlight the contradictions of the new technological era, the daily needs and socio-economic imbalances of the new millennium, creating a sign of its passage with few tools such as recycled paper, spray paint and aluminium self-adhesive sheets. Without resorting to pictorial illusions or metaphors, Guano puts on the level of composition the very meaning of the terms we commonly use, trying to analyse the complexity of the relationship between verbal and visual communication and therefore the human interaction too.
Alessio Guano(La Spezia,1984) is a visual artist, collector and art curator.
Since 2015 he has been curator of international artistic events and curator at atelier97 contemporary art and Liber, the artist's book archive. His works are part of private and public collections.
<< His works gravitate between painting, graphics, artists' books, photography, installations and digital art. Thanks to continuous research on materials, techniques and composition, he has developed a personal visual language in which lines, shapes and gestures are attractive to the observer, but at the same time lead him to a deep reflection on the proposed themes. Guano concentrates the emotional tension typical of abstract art on the surface of his works. With a more careful analysis, however, the search for chromatic balances seems to be secondary and, here and there, signs and figures emerge that are key to understanding the work itself. The unpredictable creative process, marked by the clear absence of predetermined methods, has led his works to be extremely varied. The chromatic compositions, as well as the more recent "Untitled" or monochrome ones, thus open up to new physical and mental spaces towards imperceptible and poetic views, reflecting the complex world in which we live. Alongside the sometimes rigorous, sometimes anything but academic technical work, there are suggestive moments of sensitivity and critical references to contemporary society, filtered through layers of overlapping colors and materials. >>
