Alain BAYE is self-taught, he began practicing at the age of 10 with his school tubes on cardboard or plywood. After spending 7 years in Africa (RCI, RSA and Namibia), he returned with 70 canvases that he exhibited upon his return to France in 1984. His naive figurative painting from the beginning will transform and mature over the years, in techniques, but especially in expression, according to his influences indicated below.

His painting, often abstract, Alain BAYE brings to the canvas a very internal view of what he feels, sometimes on social themes that are close to his heart. He can only work on the snapshot, on the gesture, that is why he mainly uses acrylic paint, pigments or inks, suitable in material as well as in the rendering of his colors, often very bright, to his temperament. He sometimes integrates other materials (sand, tissue paper or thread of various materials) to support his painting (but without overloading it, the most difficult being to know when to stop!). The objective for him is to have a balanced and readable canvas. His ideal format is canvases of 1 x 1 meter, depending on the theme, but can reach 2 x 2 meters in 2003 (canvases on the theme of cosmic variations) or like that of the "Grand Concert" in 2017. He sometimes returns, to get some fresh air, he says, to figurative fundamentals.

Alain BAYE began his initiation into sculpture, practicing first with friable materials such as limestone, but later moved towards terracotta, lost-wax bronze and stainless steel to create monumental sculptures up to 10m long, in the 90s. The chance discovery, at the age of 20, of a vineyard in Cognac with uprooted vines, provided him with the opportunity to find a new raw material. He then invents new characters or phantasmagorical animals!

Alain Baye considers that the energy deployed in each artistic expression (he uses the word "work" only for the Great Masters cited in his influences) can be transmitted to the person who looks at it. The reasoned optimism that transpires from his paintings or sculptures, through his striking colors and vectorial lines of force, could be considered a good therapy to keep mentally and why not physically fit! For him, this artistic expression would be more than an object, but the relay of this energy that comes to him from elsewhere (cosmic or telluric).

Exhibitions: France (22 cities), Belgium (Brussels), Denmark (Copenhagen), Germany (Berlin, Bonn), Austria (Vienna), Italy (Bergamo), USA (NY), UK (London), China (Shanghai).

Grand Prize for sculptures at the Bourges Art Fair in 2012. Arts, Sciences and Letters Medals in 2010 and 2012. Published a 192-page art book, "The Traveler of the Abstract," in 2011. ISBN: 978-2-953058-44-4.
