Born in 1984 in Ibaraki, Japan, Akira Inumaru perfected his artistic practice in Tokyo at the Suidobata art school then at the Musashino Fine Arts University before joining the Rouen Fine Arts School and the Superior School of Art and Design Le Havre/Rouen until 2013. Since his arrival in France, Akira Inumaru has developed what is both a technique and a way of thinking: solar distillations. After drawing with mastery, he continues his drawing using the energy of the sun. Using a magnifying glass, he will burn the first layer of the paper so that through the hole that the sun has drawn, colors will appear. At first, he wanted to bring light to the heart of the shadows, but very quickly he realized that his work of burning was in no way destructive but on the contrary proceeded like photosynthesis. The beauty of flowers, the magnificence of petals and leaves are the result of sunshine. Using his magnifying glass, Akira Inumaru invites the sun to act on his drawings. In black and white, by burning the first layers of paper, the plant takes on its colors and lights up. Through this process Akira Inumaru thinks beyond the work, to the mechanisms of nature. It invites us to wonder about the dual power of the sun, allowing life, but also destroying it. This is a new artistic act that fascinates the viewer and prompts questions. Taming the sun is Akira Inumaru's project.
He has received numerous awards including the "Akihiko Takami" Tokyo, Ibaraki award in Japan in 2007 and the Antoine Marin Arcueil, Ile-de-France award in France. He has participated in numerous exhibitions: Saint-Ouen Abbey, Exhibition "Cimes et Racines" Rouen, Normandy (France) in 2022, Orangery of the Senate, Jardin du Luxembourg, Exhibition "Botanique" Paris, (France) in 2018….
