Akinjide Baruwa
I remember my mother hung up our wall, pieces of paintings made in glass, by her junior brother. That was all I could remember about childhood before I entered school.
When I entered the primary school. My first experience was the headmaster coming into my class and made drawings on the chalkboard. This gave me inspiration and impressed in me, love and light. I had two soul-mate, later on and we formed a trio, drawing and exploring things and places, together. One day, one of us sunk in an incenerator of a paper producing company, while we picking discarded jotters. The horror emanating from his face and cry for help plus the tears in his voice yet kills me. He just made another effort to find a hold for his leg and he was bouyed. Had he die, I yet, wonder. Equally I had peers in my compound, although we don't attend same school. We also, have drawing session and go on adventure and mock up motion pictures and sing to ourselves.
My million miles stepping into the art-journey, began when I met art-tutors who later gave me needed push. Each played unforgettable role in my artistic development. And each reached out soulfully into my soul. And when I met someone that would later be known today, as one of the pioneer of Osogbo art movement. And in the person of late Sir Jacob Afolabi.
The many aspects of this movement, which encompasses the revival of ones culture, gives my artistry a direction and seeking daily to add my own building block.
