Agung Mangu Putra born in Selat, Sangeh, Bali (1963).
Agung Mangu Putra finished his education in Visual Communication Designing in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta (Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta) in 1990.
The artist won the Philip Morris Indonesia Art Award in 1994.
He held solo exhibitions at Jezz Gallery in Denpasar in 2000, Bentara Budaya Jakarta in 2004, Gajah Gallery in Singapore in 2005 and 2008, Rupa Gallery in Surabaya in 2006, and Galeri Nasional Indonesia in Jakarta in 2010. His creativity has been documented in the book Mangu Putra: Nature, Culture, Tension (2000).Mangu Putra’s works arise from intense contact with the world as a conscious expression of his main creative orientation. Representations of natural phenomena, along with the inner pulse of life, form the main stream of his search. The natural world, such as mountains and coasts, are depicted as identifiable objects. Some of his works with abstract designs imply natural images, such as the character of water and the texture and colours of earth or stone.
