Achu

Achu is a contemporary artist originally from Cameroon, West Africa. She immigrated to London with her family, where she spent many years before establishing studios in Cameroon, the UK, and the USA. Her artistic journey began at the tender age of nine when she picked up her first paintbrush, experimenting with various mediums such as oils, acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media. Today, her preferred mediums are acrylics and oils.

Achu's art is inspired by everyday moments that are often overlooked yet unexpectedly vivid. She aims to capture the spirit of her subjects, bringing them to life through form, color, texture, and tone. Drawing insight from her travels, her inspiration is vast, encompassing natural scenes from Africa, still objects, and the human form in action. An eternal optimist, Achu finds beauty in the mundane and sees color in shades of gray, translating her distinct perspective into evocative imagery.

While her work typically celebrates beauty, it also explores contrasting themes. For instance, her paintings of animal hearts have led to interpretations of her work as morbid or dark, prompting discussions about her choices to depict raw meat and the naked human form.
