Paulo Acencio de Araújo Barbosa (Juazeiro BA 1944) transfere-se, em 1958, para a cidade de São Paulo. Na capital paulista, freqüenta o ateliê de Romano Abedante entre 1962 e 1967. Paralelamente, começa a participar de mostras de arte, entre as quais o Salão Livre da Associação Paulista de Belas Artes, em 1965. Em 1969, ganha o concurso para criação do cartaz do 34º Salão Paulista de Belas Artes, evento no qual também expõe. Em 1971, passa a freqüentar a Feira de Arte e Artesanato da Praça da República. Em 1974 e em 1976, expõe na Bienal Nacional, na Fundação Bienal. Em 1978, trabalha na organização da 16ª Arte e Pensamento Ecológico, realizada na Cetesb, em São Paulo. No ano seguinte, cria o ARS Grupo, que tem como objetivo divulgar arte em asilos, igrejas e penitenciárias. Em 1981, participa da 16ª Bienal Internacional de São Paulo. Entre 1985 e 1987, participa da mostra Por La Liberación, que percorre mais de dez países. Desde os anos 60, publica poesias e crônicas em jornais e revistas. Em 1985, publica a revista Como Se Faz Pintura, pela Editora Três. Em 1988, publica o livro Somos Cromos Somos, pela Editora Folhia de Poesia de Ventura de La Fuente. Também trabalha como membro de seleção e premiação de diversos salões de arte, entre os quais o Salão de Artes de Itu, São Paulo, nas edições de 1977 e 1978, e a 2ª Bienal de Artes Plásticas do Círculo Militar, realizada em 1980. De 1986 a 1990 ministra curso de pintura na Oficina de Arte do Sesi, em São Paulo. Em 1991 faz viagem à Europa para estudos e contatos por 50 dias.No mesmo ano recebe seu primeiro prêmio Internacional no 19o Salão de Arte Contemporânea de Revin-França. No ano seguinte recebe o título de Vice-Presidente de Honra do 20o Salão de Arte Contemporânea de Revin-França. Cria o Jornal L’Atelier para divulgar o seu trabalho. Em 1998 recebe o prêmio Parceiros da Cultura, outorgado pelo Governo do Estado de São Paulo. Convidado para ingressar como Membro do Colégio Eleitoral do Prêmio Multicultural Estadão. Como Retratista é contratado pela Caixa Econômica Federal para completar a Galeria dos Presidentes, realiza 23 pinturas.Em 2000 realiza turnê com o seu projeto “EcceBrasilis” sobre os 500 Anos do Descobrimento do Brasil, no Paraná, São Paulo e Brasília. Convidado para integrar o corpo de Jurados do Mapa Cultural Paulista. Em 2001 é condecorado com o título “Cavaliere Accademico Del Verbano”, outorgado pela Accademia Internazionale – Greci-Marino – Accademia Del Verbano Di Lettere, Arti, Scienze – Itália.
Atualmente o artista está em plena atividade no Brasil e no Exterior.
