幸福乐土 (2002) Painting by Ben Chang Sun

Sun Benchang (1956--2003) was born in Tianjin and was born in a working class family. He has loved art since childhood and liked to organize school propaganda posters when he was in primary and secondary school. He graduated from Tianjin Arts and Crafts School in 1977 and stayed on to teach. He studied under Mr. Zhao Songtao, a professor of Chinese painting, and received guidance from predecessors such as calligraphers and painters Sun Qifeng, Wang Xuezhong, Qin Zheng, and Sun Kegang.
For more than 20 years, he has taught and educated people and cultivated a batch of artistic talents; his footprints have traveled all over the Loess Plateau, the northern Taihang Mountains, the pastoral areas of Gannan in the northwest, the border frontiers, the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, and the snowy Tibet. He has spent his life creating paintings of different styles with his heart, blood, tears, and life, established his own unique artistic appearance, and formed an artistic form and painting language that is very different from others. The painting "Riverside Daughter's Wedding" won three awards: "Silver Award of the 7th National Art Exhibition, the First Qi Baishi Fund Award of the Chinese Artists Association, and the Grand Prize of the Japan-China Friendship Hall", which caused a sensation in the art world and was called "a famous painting of the generation". Sun Benchang's landscape paintings were praised by Mr. Feng Jicai, Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, as "cultural landscapes", which are unique in the Chinese painting world.
