«Дорога в вечность» символизирует непростой жизненный путь художника. За ее основу взято полотно Х. Сутина «Красная лестница в Кане» (1923 г.). В то же время в композицию сюжета добавлены уже известные нам персонажи, прообразами которых послужили обычные люди, жившие рядом с Хаимом и сыгравшие в его судьбе определенную роль. Именно их он принимал в свою жизнь для того, чтобы запечатлеть на своих полотнах или разделить с ними свою судьбу…
При создании оммажной композиции были использованы такие работы Х. Сутина, как «Автопортрет» (1922 г.), «Сумасшедшая» (1919 г.), «Виолончелист» (1916 г.), «Le Rouquin» (1917-1919 гг.), «Ева» (1928 г.), «Русская» (1917 г.), «Женщина в красном» (1923-1924 гг.), «Молодой человек в маленькой шляпе» (1916 г.), «Безумная» (1919 г.), «Облокачивающаяся женщина» (1937 г.), «Красная лестница в Кань» (1923 г.).
На заднем плане композиции видны уже ставшие символичными Эйфелева башня и дворец Монюшко-Ваньковичей в г. Смиловичи, которые подобно кисти художника, «дребезжат» под тяжестью прошедших лет. В 1913 году Х. Сутин покидает территорию Российской Империи и нынешние белорусские земли, отправляясь во Францию. Эйфелева башня пала, что олицетворяет покорение Х. Сутиным Парижа и признание его работ. И вот последний путь мэтра, эта лестница – его дорога, ведущая к воротам последней обители. Лица же, «стоящие вдоль дороги», – это самые дорогие ему люди, которые пришли для того, чтобы «прожить» с ним его последний путь.
