Welcome to the on-line gallery of Joe O'Donovan.

Born Limerick, Ireland in 1955.

Self-taught artist & poet.

I have been involved with the arts since the late 70's. My first exhibition was a varied collection of T-shirt designs covering the Punk phenomena, Environmental issues, Abstract, Impressionism and Pop-Art. This was held in Piccadilly London and lead to my art being collected by art loves all over the world. Followed by my showing of canvas paintings at the Alexander Palace, The Wren Piccadilly, Battersea Art Center - the venue for the countries largest public art fair -C. C. Bayswater and other London art venues. I then moved to Sussex, with a recent exhibition at the Greenslade Gallery, which was opened by the mayor Ian Dickson and his charming wife.

Why do I paint?

I paint out of love for life, I get lost in a world of color, form and texture. I wonder at where my imagination will take me each time I consider an idea for a painting. I often reflect on my childhood years, moments with my mother, talking about my day or hers, while the oven sends out a warming scent, of hot milk and burnt sugar; from the rice pudding lying there. Or maybe, a summers day with friends sitting crossed legged on the cool grass discussing "important" issues and trying to put the world to right. Maybe, the lovers at the train station, holding on to that last moment, while the smoke, fleetingly conceals the sadness on their faces. What about those teenage years that seemed to go on far too long, or an idea to extend the viewers thoughts to a greater level of expectation in life. So many treasures to draw on and far too many to keep only for ones self.

I would say my greatest pleasure, is sharing my work with others. I hope you enjoy your visit and please come again.

Best Wishes

Joseph O'Donovan
