Inspired by lakes, and created by layering oil over a few months. Alternating between two techniques; 'colour replacement', where everything that was one colour would be painted over with another colour, ie, all red will be covered by turquoise. And 'new colours only', which is self explanatory.
This is part of the artist’s ongoing practice, where he intuitively paints for a few hours each day, allowing for his mood and perception of the day to influence the work.

Simon Findlay works on his personal relationship with colour through exhaustive durational visual expression.

As part of his process based artistic practice, some of the performances he has done include; throwing rocks in a snow storm whilst wearing only short shorts, using only blue for a year, exploring different tools such as brooms and long bendy sticks to extend the paint brush, ripping apart and restalping canvases, throwing paint inside a transparent cube with accompanying musicians, and “Standing On Top A Washing Machine To Throw Wine Bottles Of Paint At The Ground.”

He is based in Berlin, Germany since 2016. Prior to this he was in Melbourne, Australia.
