Suzanne B Gibbs
I enjoy painting in both England and Northern California, where I was personally affected and touched by the tragic wildfires of 2018. Consequently, I produced a 3-month solo art exhibition to raise money for the Red Cross in 2019 and another on global warming this summer (2022) in the SFO Bay Area. I am both interested in landscape and portraiture and have won awards for both. This year I was awarded the Tom Urwin Fine Art Award 2022 at the SWA exhibition. I was presented the top Award by HRH Prince Michael of Kent at the Mall Galleries in London. The winning painting, ‘Mum Facing Dementia’ was painted following my mother’s acceleration of vascular dementia, I painted, 'Mum Facing Dementia’, as a creative release, whilst analysing, recording and coping with the challenges brought about by mental issues.
I realised then that my passion for painting, had become focused on exploring the psychological or emotive more than the physical state of the subject. My aim is to create artwork that encourages the viewer to question, consider and empathise, whilst being engaged or moved by the narrative.
