Last One-man Show widely covered in press,Mid-Day, Mumbai issue May 11-17, 2006.
Exhibiton was held at "Nitai Gaura's" Art gallery between 27th April and May 3rd, 2006.

I am an engineer by profession. I hold a degree in electrical engineering and am also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers in India. After my graduation I joined the steel industry and worked in senior capacities in major steel plants in India and abroad for over 30 years. I live in Bombay and am an independent consultant in the marketing of industrial products.


This background might seem entirely unconnected with the world of art, but for decades I have been wielding the brushes as a hobby. Although I am a entirely self-taught artist I have had a few one-man shows to my credit and been part of regional group exhibitions in Bombay, Bangalore, Delhi in the 70's and 80's.


Caught up in the rat race, however, I had little time to devote to my canvasses and virtually gave up painting. But the new millennium brought with it a new phase of creativity, and I am again finding myself painting and capturing the evanescent moments of nature.

Conveying an idea, creating a mood, and interpreting a subject, so that the viewer feels comfortable and possibly reminiscent, is what I try to achieve.

I try to keep my approach to painting very simple, relying principally on the design and value patterns to create exciting compositions. Rather than re-creating a landscape on a canvas, I aim to express its essence. Many of my earlier paintings are loosely referential than specific.

I react differently to different types of landscapes. The land, the water and the sky have tremendous energy and a powerful presence and essence. My work is inspired mainly by the beauty, contrasts, the paradoxes of the landscapes.

My latest series of abstract landscapes stems from my own sense of beauty, the sheer complexity of the nature. Rather than re-creating a landscape on a canvas, I have aimed to express its essence.

Colour is a progressive art. While my paintings draw much from the tradition, my effort has been to explore the new concepts in manipulation of colour. I try to interpret them in aesthetic terms which one might comprehend without difficulty.

I invite you try to enter the world I have created. Relax and let your eye, your heart and mind react to its colors, shapes, and textures.
I am sure that my art will grow on you, becoming more interesting and more enjoyable to look at as you live with it.

Art has the power to make one see things in a new light. It allows us to develop a love for places and things that we would otherwise not have noticed or thought of as ugly or boring.

I paint for the simple love of celebrating Creation. For me this is what it is all about.

I have won many in India during my long track record. I hope to win some international award in the not too distant future.
All said and done, the love of my family and friends is the best award I keep getting everyday!
I am happy and contended.
